Entering his workshop implies submerging in a world of simpleness and talent that any visitor can perceive. Roberto Volta is an artist in the most extensive sense that can be given to this term; speaks with the same intensity with which he does his painting, and his life and work are signed by the same word: passion. Born in Rio 3°, Córdoba, September 20th 1946, he finds himself with a real cultural revolution, with the Di Tella Institute as the main referent, but the agitated political atmosphere at the time scares him and begins an inner search – leaning on a very exquisite design and profound knowledge of the anatomy – that transforms himself into his own teacher.

His first step as an artist finds him developing a series called “El artista y el mundo” (“The artist and the world”), that constitutes a period of “Social painting” where he molds his vision of the social agitation that the Argentina was going through. “It was the result of the emotional impact in me in relation to what was going on in the society. During this phase I’m a protagonist looking at what is going on around me.” He explains.

Years of continuous exploration followed where his work was purely allegorical until there was a click: “I did a sort of alquimia and in my paintings I began to remove certain figurative elements still not reaching the total abstraction, inclining to the oniric aspect in order to have the freedom to grow.” He also elaborates traditional images of tango, especially of the malevo, basing himself on the human figure, but as a result of a passionate and unceasing search, he decides to incorporate the tango to this new phase.

This way he is now developing, ever since two years ago, his series of “TANGO ONIRICO ARGENTINO”, a proof of this is the great acceptance from the international public, another proof of this is the very many invitations received daily to exhibit his work abroad. This is how he explains it: “ That is my principal goal, because the gratified tango does not exist in the world and I feel like I have this treasure to show.” Working under the suggestion, the seduction and the eroticism replaces the bodies for figures that have anything to do with the tango (bandoneón, guitars, piano, etc.). This way I come up with certain personages that come to life “Like a game” and complete his work. “In the tango you play different rolls: the malevaje, the melancholy, the nostalgia; I make them come out and they are the solution to be able to accomplish my aim, every piece of art is a challenge”, he expresses. Each stroke in his paintings is impregnated of a great passion and enthusiasm that Roberto Volta does not hide it : “I found a very beautiful way of gratifying the tango and it gives me grief that it is only known as a dance or music genre, I want the world to know that it also generates other cultural activities.”

His atelier, where he gives classes to kids and to adults, can be visited, with a previous appointment call: Tel. 4790-9683
